Why This Reference Exists
Printed directory volumes are only one part of the Mesquite record trail. Current ownership information sits with Dallas Central Appraisal District and the Dallas County Clerk. Historical directories, newspapers, census microfilm, yearbooks, and local histories are available through the Mesquite Public Library Genealogy Division. Texas election rules, court access rules, and vital-record restrictions also shape what can be confirmed. The goal is to identify the actual office, collection, or portal before a search begins.
Mesquite needs its own records map because postal city, county, and municipal boundaries do not always match. The incorporated city is primarily in Dallas County, while the city’s ETJ reaches into western Kaufman County. A property’s city-limit status and legal description matter alongside the address.
